Felano sharply criticizes DA Flynn’s attempt to muzzle candidate free speech

February 15, 2021 – BUFFALO, N.Y. – GOP contender Steve Felano confirms Monday that he fully intends to challenge Republican-endorsed Karen Healy-Case in the party primary for Erie County Sheriff.

“The Erie County Republican Party’s weekend candidate endorsement confirms several facts that I and many Erie County voters have known for years: the GOP does not believe in the core purpose of the Second Amendment, the party has run out of original and strategic ideas, Erie County political dealings are irredeemably transactional and rigged, and only a candidate like myself can install a true backbone in the GOP,” Erie County Sheriff Candidate Steve Felano said. “Since announcing my non-enforcement platform two months ago, Republican contenders have fallen all over themselves to completely rip off my ideas with zero intention of actually implementing them. I am the only candidate for sheriff guaranteed to refuse to enforce unconstitutional edicts forced on us by state and county legislators. I will challenge Karen Healy-Case in the Republican primary to ensure voters can back a candidate that will truly fight the Cuomo regime on their behalf instead of bowing to the political establishment.”

Confirming the belief long held by most voters that Erie County is controlled by an elitist political class hellbent on shredding individual rights in service of centralized government force, Erie County District Attorney John Flynn issued a dictatorial command several days ago that sheriff candidates “keep my people’s names out of your campaigns, or you’re going to have a problem with me.”

Flynn was referring to Karen Healy-Case’s recent public listing of law enforcement personnel who support her candidacy. The list included Lou Roberto, Mark Stambach and Pam Harris, some of Flynn’s criminal investigators. Learning of these endorsements at a recent press conference, Flynn flew into an autocratic tirade.

“The sheriff’s race is going to be a major source of contention,” Flynn said. “I’m nipping it in the bud right now, OK? Keep my people off your list. Keep my people’s names out of your campaigns, or you’re going to have a problem with me.”

“I strongly condemn District Attorney Flynn’s attempt to muzzle the free speech of the candidates in the Erie County Sheriff race,” Felano said. “Mr. Flynn may want to go back to law school and take a second pass through our nation’s founding documents, because the First Amendment strongly protects the ability of Sheriff candidates to publicly talk about members of his staff. Threatening political candidates with the statement ‘or you’re going to have a problem with me’ is unacceptable and Flynn’s outburst begs the question, what other constitutional protections is the district attorney violating in service of his own political ends? This is precisely why the district attorney should not have control over the Erie County Grand Jury and why, as sheriff, I will take that control away from him and put the grand jury back to work directly serving the residents of Erie County instead of the political proclivities of John Flynn.”

Steve Felano is running for Erie County Sheriff because, clearly, New York State government is the greatest threat to public safety right now and he has what it takes to fight back.

Felano’s Blue New Deal ensures county residents’ civil rights are protected, unconstitutional edicts from Albany are nullified and ignored, and our Sheriff’s Deputies get the full respect and support they deserve while protecting citizens’ fundamental rights from governmental abuse. It includes:

Non-enforcement of unconstitutional edicts to protect citizens’ rights from state overreach: On Felano’s first day as Erie County Sheriff, the unlawful SAFE Act, arbitrary pistol permit regime, illegal Red Flag Law, and all COVID-1984 executive orders will stop being enforced by Erie County Deputies.

A strong Grand Jury to resist government abuse: As Erie County Sheriff, Felano will impanel a grand jury with the power to investigate official misconduct, including all members of the Cuomo Regime, and all government agents involved in the ongoing, unconstitutional COVID-1984 lockdown forced on Erie County residents.

Ending victimless traffic violations to stop highway theft from working families: State and county government agents impose technical, victimless traffic violations on Erie County residents to balance their irresponsible budgets. Felano will stop enforcement of these violations. Parents just trying to get to work on time should not be robbed on the side of the highway so progressives may continue their reckless spending binge.

Felano is a 35-year-old Erie County resident. He is Founder of 2ANYS, New York State’s premier Second Amendment civil rights advocacy enterprise. Felano’s organization has been instrumental in launching a range of successful legal challenges to Albany’s civilian disarmament regime and illegal COVID-1984 mandates.

Felano is a member of The Firing Pin’s Combat Athletics Team (TFP CAT), which will be competing at the May 2021 Tactical Games event in New Hampshire against a range of law enforcement/SWAT, military, and civilian tactical athletes. He has completed numerous firearms marksmanship and accredited tactical medicine courses, to include Special Forces Veteran Aaron Barruga’s Functional Marksmanship Movements Pistol Course, Top Shot Competitor Chris Cerino’s FASTER Foundations Pistol Course, and the U.S. Department of Defense Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) Course.
